Sleeping Beauty is a classic fairy tale with its earliest origins tracing back to Le Roman de Perceforest, a French chivalric romance written in the 1300s, and best know from the versions published by Charles Perrault in 1697 and Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in 1812. Another well-know variant of the tale is "Sole, Luna, e Talia" ("Sun, Moon, and Talia") by Giambattista Basile. It is the namesake of taletype 410 in the Aarne–Thompson–Uther Index, which includes stories such as "Maruzzeda" and "The Ninth Captain's Tale". It is closely related to other fairy tales of featuring sleeping princesses, such as Snow White and The Glass Coffin.

Though the fandom for the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale is small, the story and characters are both popular for fairy tale fusions and crossovers. As a Yuletide-eligible fandom, it is occasionally requested there.
