The Annual Fancure Awards (or Fancuries) are fandom awards for pieces of media relating to Pretty Cure Fanseries. The Fancuries are run by a committee of volunteers.

The Fancuries were held in November, December, January, and February [1] up until 2022.

After the Fancuries have been held and finished, a feedback form is released for the community to help improve it. The next Fancuries see these changes and recommendations implemented.

The Fancuries take their season name from the judging period; e.g., the Fancuries held in 2017 judged fanseries submitted from the year 2016, and were thus known as the 2016 Fancuries. The awards season technically lasts from the close of the previous nomination period until the closing of the current nomination period. The 2020 Fancuries are therefore for fanseries created or updated in a time range yet to be specified. The awards themselves are held in the January or February after the award season closes.[2]

History

The Annual Fancure Awards (or “Fancuries” for short) started as an idea in late 2016, when a tumblr user and fancure content creator wished to celebrate the rich, if small, Precure fanseries community. The idea was to create awards that honored and celebrated achievement, improvement, friendship, and creativity. The community quickly got engaged in this idea, and the Fancuries were born.[3]

The Fancuries were based primarly on Tumblr, until the committee decided to branch out onto the Precure Amino (PA) circa 2019.

During the 2016 season of the Fancuries, they were hosted on the Fancure Directory on Tumblr, with the first related post dated to November 20th, 2016.[4] All subsequent seasons have been hosted on the Fancuries Tumblr page. Note that there was no Fancuries 2021 or 2023 event.

Voting Changes

The 2017 Fancuries saw changes in voting. The voting form was separated into two forms, as it had been overwhelming according to the feedback form.[5] However, this lead to less votes and nominations[6], and the voting and nominations returned to it's original format in the next season.

Themes

Themes for the Fancuries started with the 2018 Fancuries. Themes are optional to follow and impact the Red Carpet event most notably.

  • Winter (2018 Fancuries Theme)[7]
  • Nature in a Garden (2019 Fancuries Theme)[8]
  • Heaven/Sky (2020 Fancuries Theme)[9]

Mascot

Cure Award, the Fancure mascot for the Fanseries, was first introduced in the 2019 season of the Fancuries[10], and was formally introduced seven days later. She was designed by Cure Daybreak on Tumblr.

Cure Award does not host the Fancuries, instead appearing on Fancuries infographics and other things such as posts.[11]

Award Categories

Award Categories changed each year. With the committee removing things that didn't work previously, or trying something new.

Award Events

Award Events are events that cannot be voted on. They are created by the community and committee and help promote creators during the Fancuries Season.

You can also create your own award events, like the Fancuries Red Carpet we’ve had for a couple years. Feel free to make a fun one, and be sure to contact us so we can help get the word out![17]

Red Carpet Event

The Red Carpet Event dates back to the first season of the Fancuries. It was created by the community, and was was hosted by Mellimoe (or Missmellifluous) and Fancure Support on Tumblr.[18] The event has been promoted by the Fancuries Tumblr in every year since.

The event features creators putting their Fancures, in either Civillian or Cure form, in a fancy outfit that one would wear to an awards ceremony.

During the 2019 Fancuries, aceaite complied all the art created for the event and put it into a collage.[19]

People seeking to enter the Red Carpet Event have the option of using a background provided by a member on the Fancuries Committee.

Nominee Spotlight

Nominee Spotlight's came about with the 2019 Fancuries season. They are intended to help promote nominees, so as to help voters make more educated and diverse votes. As apposed for voting for someone they already know.

They feature words from the creator of the nomination(s), detailing both their fanseries and their nomination(s). They occur between when nominees are selected and voting opens.[20]

For Your Consideration

For Your Consideration started during the Fancuries 2020 season. It encourages content creators to promote their fanseries by creating a post that includes the basic details of their fanseries (e.g. the Cures, the status, or motifs).

In the Oscars’ terms, this is when a company makes a campaign for their project to bring attention to it, and these posts are supposed to be much the same! To help people remember who did what fanseries, fancures, fanfancures, and ideas, simply make a post overviewing your projects in simple terms.[21]

Winners and Nominees

To become a Fancuries Award winner, steps have to be taken.

First, there is a nomination period where anyone can nominate any fanseries for an award. At the end of the nomination period, the Fancurie Committee disqualifies any series that do not make that award’s qualifications, then tallies up the remaining nominations. Depending on the amount of nominations, between two and five of the most popular are chosen to go on to voting. If there is a tie in the amount of nominations, it is broken by random selection.

The voting process is straightforward. Members of the community cast their votes for the winner. In the event of a winning tie, we consider all tied series winners.

Winning series are disqualified from winning the same award in future years; e.g., our 2016 winner of Best Completed Fanseries of All Time, Spooky! Pretty Cure, can never win that category again.[22]

For a complete list of all winners and nominees, see The Fancuries/Winners and Nominees.
