Lightbridge is a gen Blake's 7 story by Suzan Lovett. It was published in Those Who Favor Fire.

This fic was published in The Road to Hell and Other Stories with Lovett's other Blake's 7 fics (listed below). All five fics focus on Avon's relationship with Blake, but they take place at different points in canon and portray different versions of events to each other. They are not intended to be read as a series.

Summary

"The shortest and simplest story plotwise of the five. It is third season, and Avon decides to pay Blake's empty cabin on the Liberator a visit."

Reactions and Reviews

Set just before 'Volcano', a very simple story with a drop-dead perfect central metaphor that is so beautiful and soooo Blake. And the deft description of Avon's reaction to what he discovers in Blake's cabin is wonderful.[1]

The second story [in this zine], "Lightbridge," is just a short, plotless scene set sometime in the third season, in which Avon visits Blake's quarters on the _Liberator_ for the first time and discovers something interesting that Blake had apparently built in there. It's well written, the metaphor of the "lightbridge" is a rather appealing one (if perhaps a little obvious), and once again the characterization of Avon is subtle and nicely done.[2]

lovett's a very competent writer and after a few bizarre fics, it's nice to come back to her very well-characterised liberator crew. the central image is a nice one, but i feel this fic goes on for a bit too long. also - the first and the second parts (i. avon wrestles with himself and his crew about whether they should go after blake; ii. avon discovers blake's built a spiffy thing in his cabin) feel like they could be separate fics. for all it's competent and stuff, this fic doesn't do much for me. maybe it's because the dialogue stops pretty quickly/blake isn't there. i tend not to appreciate the massive imagery-heavy ones. so, i'm willing to accept this is my problem, not 'lightbridges'.[3]

And speaking of B7 (which I like to do, for some reason) for anyone who wants to try somewhere near the very best gen that Blake's 7, The Road to Hell - my own very very favourite - is on the web ... The other four stories on the page - Doppelganger, Gemini Rising, Lightbridge (I love Lightbridge, the imagery is so perfect) and the wonderfully *black*angst Circle of Fire - are all among my favourites, but may be more difficult to get the benefit of if you've never seen the show. The Road to Hell takes one of the lesser Series 2 episodes and turns it into something rich, strange and obliquely intense.[4]
