Too Sweet is a song by Hozier, released as part of his 2024 EP Unheard. Prior to its release, Hozier teased the song in a TikTok announcing the EP using a clip of its chorus, and it was immediately adopted by fans for use in fanworks, particularly edits on TikTok.

Fan Use

TikTok

The song is popular on TikTok as an audio for edits and slideshows. The majority of use is centred around the song's chorus, as this was the first clip released:

I take my whiskey neat
My coffee black and my bed at three
You’re too sweet for me
You’re too sweet for me

[1]

A theme of many edits is the focus on rebellious or "bad boy" characters, in keeping with the lyrics of the chorus; this often includes beginning with clips of another character, or the same character in a more wholesome context, switching to different clips on the word "neat". Some edits are also made in a similar fashion, but feature a character before and after a "glow-up" or significant change in their appearance and behaviour. Many slideshows also follow this formula, with two panels showing the contrast between two character, or two sides of a character. Others pull together clips of a character drinking, playing on the lyric "I take my whiskey neat".

Another variation was to use the song to contrast two images of people or characters, with the second image being who the creator found preferable, in the same sort of use as the "glow up", albeit for different people. For example, this became a trend in TikTok's football fandoms where creators would have photos of either teams or players with their preferred photograph as the second one. In women's football fandom, creators would contrast the men's teams or players to their preferred women's team/player second; some men's football fans responded to this by creating sexist edits. These edits would again contrast the men's teams and women's teams, but with the women's teams having text overlaid such as "I take my dishes clean" or "I take my sandwich with cheese" or other overt or implied sexist commentary[2][3]. Also within football fandoms on Tiktok, there is another variation — again with more negative connotations than the original use — where the first image of a disliked player has the text 'you're too shit for me' (or another derogatory comment) overlaid, followed by an image of the player the creator considers better.

The sound from the original TikTok teasing the song has since been deleted, causing many edits to lose their audio.
