Air is the second visual novel developed by Key/Visual Arts, which was later adapted into an anime.

Canon

Air was released as a PC Game in 2000. In 2005, it was adapted into a 13-episode anime and a two-episode mini-series by Kyoto Animation, as well as a film by Toei Animation. The franchise also encompasses several comic anthologies, music CDs, and audio dramas. The anime adaptations were licensed in the US by Funimation, but the original game has yet to be officially translated.[1]

Air revolves around Kunisaki Yukito, a latent telekinetic in pursuit of a mysterious winged girl, who meets up with Kamio Misuzu, an oddball suffering from a degenerative illness.

Fandom

Shipping

It is worth noting that there is a difference in shipping trends between those who have interacted with the original visual novel and fans who are only familiar with the anime, as a result of the focus the anime has on the Yukito/Misuzu pairing over the other pairings in the game. As a result, in the English-speaking fandom, where the anime is far better known than the original novel, Yukito/Misuzu is the most prevalent pairing.
