Birds of Prey is a DC Comics comic book series that focused on superheroines, originally just between Oracle and Black Canary but has since expanded to include others.

Canon

The title series began with Chuck Dixon's one shot Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey in 1996. When Gail Simone took over the series in 2003, she added the Huntress to the lineup.

Birds of Prey had several different versions, with various adaptations. Justice League Unlimited episode "Double Date" was supposed to be a version of Birds of Prey, however due to character rights, they were unable to use Barbara, thus only Huntress and Black Canary were used. Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode "The Mask of Matches Malone" has its own version of the team with Black Canary and Huntress teaming with Catwoman since Barbara didn't exist in that universe. Arrow episode "Birds of Prey" teams up Laurel Lance and Sara Lance (Canary) against Huntress.

However the well-known adaptation fans can mainly known as Birds of Prey was a live-action WB television show that ran from October 2002 – February 2003 for thirteen episodes before it was cancelled.

Arrowverse

Since about the time of Helena Bertinelli's first appearance on the show confirmed at least two characters of comicsverse Birds of Prey was on the series, there have been interest in having an Arrow version of the team. Fans hoped that the episode "Birds of Prey" would indeed have the team, however it only included Sara Lance (at the time the only Canary) and Laurel Lance teaming up against the Huntress. This is usually fixed in fanworks where the characters team up together. They are often joined by Felicity Smoak, who takes place as the role of Oracle. Fans sometimes also fancast Barbara for the series. As the series continued and more characters join the universe as superheroes or vigilantes, more characters are often part of "Birds of Prey" fanworks, such as Thea Queen (Speedy), Iris West, Caitlin Snow (Killer Frost), Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl), Tatsu Yamashiro (Katana), Nyssa al Ghul, Mari McCabe (Vixen), etc.
