Broken Hearts is Star Trek: TOS "music video" by Sandra James.

Author's Notes

"Summary: A TOS Music Video; a flashback to the time when Spock went to Gol, and when he returned to the Enterprise in ST:TMP. Disclaimers: Spock, Kirk and Uhura belong to Paramount, a Viacom Company. The two songs are by Whitney Houston and can be found on the album "Whitney". They are "You're still my man" and "Where do broken hearts go"...I haven't heard these in months, and when I did again, I had this idea to turn them into a ST music video. But neither Spock nor Kirk can sing it... that's where Uhura comes in. It's my first music video, and I'm not really happy about the result, so if you don't like it or think it needs improving, I'd be very grateful if you gave me some advice about it. It was really weird, when I heard one of the songs I knew I wanted to write it, but when I tried to, it didn't end up like I wanted it to. Thanks to Mary Ellen for telling me where I could find the lyrics, so I didn't have to type it all while hearing the songs."

Part of a Short-Lived Series of Fanwork

In 1998, about a half dozen fans wrote "music videos."

They were not vids as many fans would know them today, but written descriptions of videos. Some of them were scripted vids, formatted as if they were to be viewed. Some were short stories interspersed with actual lyrics (not unlike a songfic), or stories that had breaks in which musical interludes were suggested, such as "swelling instrumentals."

These music videos included:

Excerpt

BROKEN HEARTS
In the middle of a dark stage, dressed in an elegant red dress, Uhura stands, the spotlight pointed towards her. She holds a microphone loosely in her hand and looks towards where the audience has to be, according to the claps and cheers she hears. When the room is finally quiet, the woman smiles. "Thank you," she begins. "The last two songs are for two of my very best friends."

As Uhura starts singing, we see Kirk and Spock wandering along a deserted path, it is already half-dark. None of them looks at the other, and no one says a word, until finally Kirk stops, watching the Vulcan walk on without turning back.

//On the day that you left me
You said you had no regrets
There's a bond between us
That hasn't been broken yet
//And the feelings between us
Will never disappear
How can you be far away
When your spirit's here?//

As Spock disappears into darkness, his former captain abruptly turns and goes into the opposite direction.

//You're still my man
Nothing can change it
We still belong together
You're still my man
Nothing can change it
Our love will last forever//
