Chakotay/Seven of Nine is the het pairing of Chakotay and Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager fandom. The relationship became canon at the end of the television series.

Fan Reception

Many fans felt that the ship made no sense and lacked buildup. However there are some fans who enjoy it. Seven of Nine's actor, Jeri Ryan, has publicly stated that she felt it didn't work as a pairing:

We never played any sort of attraction or anything between the two characters. And then, out of the blue, all of a sudden, they're dating (in "Endgame"). That was a little annoying, especially when you've specifically asked about it and they said, "No, absolutely not." Then, suddenly they're in love. That was a little ... It's one of the frustrations of network television. And it's how you learn, also. You have to try to be the babysitter and the protector of your character.[1]

A 2009 poll on Trek BBS with 118 votes resulted in 82.2% "Thumbs down!" for this ship, 17.8% "Thumbs up!".[2]

Common Tropes in Fanworks

  • Futurefic or Post-Endgame: what their lives are like once they return to the Alpha Quadrant, and how their relationship develops
  • Threesome or Poly: almost always involving Kathryn Janeway, and may be a way for writers to resolve the disappointment of J/C and J/7 shippers
