Edwin Paine/Charles Rowland is the slash pairing of Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine (written as Edwin Payne in the comics) in Dead Boy Detectives fandom.
Canon
Edwin and Charles are two dead boys that remain on Earth as ghosts to solve supernatural mysteries. This is the basic premise for the original comics, and its adaptations.
Edwin and Charles appeared in an episode of Doom Patrol, portrayed by Ty Tennant and Sebastian Croft, it was confirmed in this episode that Edwin had unrequited feelings for Charles. It was also confirmed in the run of comics released shortly after.
Dead Boy Detectives was adapted into a full series that aired in 2024 with Edwin and Charles played by George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri. An overarching plot of season 1 is Edwin realizing and coming to terms with his romantic feelings for Charles. Edwin eventually admits his feelings to Charles, and Charles says that he isn't "in love" with Edwin, but that Edwin is his best friend and the most important person in his life.

Common Tropes and Storylines in Fanworks
- Post Love Confession: after the love confession by Edwin near the end of season 1 of the TV series, there are a lot fic that explores how Charles processes this information, often realizing he loves Edwin back.
- Jealous Charles: Charles being jealous of the attention Edwin receives from other characters, usually from other canon TV characters like Monty or the Cat King, but sometimes also from fan created characters. Sometimes this leads to Charles realizing his feelings for Edwin, or he's confused, or someone else points out his behavior.
- Hurt/Comfort: because they are ghosts this usually involves emotional hurt/comfort, as they comfort each other after traumatic experiences. Charles comforting Edwin after his experiences in Hell is quite common. There are physical hurt/comfort stories, but becasue they're ghosts fans often have to get creative with how the hurt would occur.
