Reactions and Reviews

Again Kirk and Spock have come home to advise of their bonding. This time the setting is Iowa, Earth, where they must reveal their relationship to Kirk‘s mother and nephew. Makes me nervous just reading of them walking to the front door! Kirk‘s putting on a good front, but he really doesn‘t know what to expect. Kirk‘s mother is great! She‘s a little sly, letting them sweat a bit at first, but this is her son and she loves him, so anyone who makes him happy is fine by her. But darned if there isn‘t another of Kirk‘s ex-girlfriends on the scene. And what does he do, ignore her and stand by Spock‘s side? Oh, no. He goes off and spends the night with her!! Just to talk, mind you. Just to talk. Doesn‘t he have any inkling what this is doing to Spock? I could just kick him in the pants. This is an area where I disagree a bit with the author, who in most aspects sees their love as pure and flawless (as I prefer to do). I don‘t understand why she would have Kirk do this, because while it is innocent in the context of adultery, it most certainly wounds Spock to the core and I don‘t like to think Kirk is that thoughtless. Other than that glitch, it‘s another fine story. [1]
