DC Bombshells is a comic series published by DC Comics. It takes place in a reality where female superheroes guard the homefront during World War II.

History

Bombshells was originally created as a series of statuettes inspired by 1940s pinup art and dieselpunk. It later sparked two runs of themed variant covers, with the second coinciding with the launch of their own series in 2015, written by Marguerite Bennett.

Fandom

Much of Bombshells' early fandom was centered around fanart and cosplay based on the pinup art first released. Once the comic began publication the fandom grew and various picspams and fan theories on who would next be shown within Bombshells were posted to Tumblr.

Shipping

The series' focus on a strong female cast and queer relationships within them has lead to Femslash dominating the fandom. Bombshells was the first official comic to show Ivy and Harley kiss,[1] which was celebrated among fans. The Supergirl TV series fandom were also quick to pick up on Lois and Kara's first kiss,[2][3] with some supercorp fans noting that the issue also debuted Lena Luthor[4] and drawing comparisons to their ship.[5]
