Freaks and Geeks was a short-lived series on NBC that gained a cult following. It was set in the 1980s.

Canon

After her grandmother's death, a high school mathlete starts hanging out with a group of burnouts while her younger brother navigates his freshman year.

Linda Cardellini stars as Lindsay Weir and John Francis Daley stars as her brother, Sam Weir. Lindsay's friends constitute the "freaks"—Daniel Desario (James Franco), Ken Miller (Seth Rogen), Nick Andopolis (Jason Segel), Kim Kelly (Busy Philipps); and Sam's friends constitute the "geeks"—Neal Schweiber (Samm Levine) and Bill Haverchuck (Martin Starr). Millie Kentner (Sarah Hagan), Lindsay's nerdy, highly religious former best friend, is a recurring character, as is Cindy Sanders (Natasha Melnick), the attractive, popular cheerleader on whom Sam has a crush. The Weirs' parents, Harold and Jean, are featured in every episode.

Fandom

Despite it's cult following, fanfiction for the fandom is very low - under 100 works at both AO3 and FanFiction.net as of November 2015. LiveJournal held a lot of the fandom activity for the series from 2001 to 2013.[1]

Gifs and quotes are blogged or reblogged on Tumblr. Actors/actresses posts such as pictures of photoshoots are sometimes tagged with "freaks and geeks".
