I think we should extract the last two sections, about editing and moving categories themselves, because they only certain people can do that. Making that stuff a separate page to make this page easier to use.

Also should explain how to decide which categories apply. -- Msilverstar 18:27, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

I added another link to [Fanlore:Categories], maybe that's enough. -- Msilverstar 18:36, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Adjusting the Category Alphabetization: under what circumstances would we need to change the way a page sorts for individual categories and not globally? We've got DEFAULTSORT now, so I'm not sure we should be encouraging people to use this code to change the sort.--æthel 18:12, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

There seems to be some missing text at the end of the Adjusting the Category Alphabetization section and I'm not sure what goes there... -- Mrs. Velvet Ears 07:14, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

How to move a category section

The how to move a category section is incorrect. You can move/rename a category page just like any other page; the difference is that all the pages in that category won't move along with it and need to be manually recategorized unless they all share a template (then you can update the category included in the template).--aethel (talk) 14:25, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

I updated the page with this info.--aethel (talk) 01:39, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Redirect Categories - Categorised?

Looked through Category:Manga and noticed an empty category. When investigated, I found that it was a redirect category. Should redirect categories be categorised like this? MapleSchmaple (talk) 03:18, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

I've never seen that before. Is there a way to identify all categories that are redirects so we can check the others?--aethel (talk) 16:55, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
Maybe once? Checking Help:Searching indicated that in advanced search you could check or uncheck a 'list redirects' box, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't exist any more. Trying to find redirects through search by use of double quotes doesn't work either and I think that the search function automatically filters out any page redirects. Special:ListRedirects only lists 1000 redirects and as far as I can tell, none of those are category redirects. How I identified the original instance is through observation that the category contained no pages and then a small investigation. If a redirect category has an additionally category, that would be the best method of identifying it (looking over major categorys and the sub categorys in them for any 'red flags') as I don't think any better method exists at the moment.
