Controversies

Katniss by CPatten. This piece being significant in that it is an example of art created before the casting of the films, and shows Katniss with the darker skin tone that is described in the books. As of January 2019, it has received over 10,000 views on deviantart

• Whitewashing: some fans were upset with the casting of Lawrence for Katniss in the films, because they felt the choice did not fit with the description of Katniss, who was supposed to have olive skin, dark hair and gray eyes, and that it served as another example of whitewashing in Hollywood. Also, some noticed a marked difference in the fan art produced before and after the casting of the film.
