Prophecy and Warmth holds a special place in my heart as one of those fics that exemplify real life – the world doesn’t stop despite love lost and eventually, you pick the pieces up and move on the best you can. The story takes place post-NFA where Angel shanshus and is together with Buffy who has no idea that Spike is alive. Spike meanwhile hooks up with a new slayer and tries to put Buffy behind him, until a mysterious disease that is killing off slayers causes them to cross paths again. Sexual tension abounds as Buffy and Spike realise they’ve made the wrong choices again. Even when they come round to each other, the specters of old loves and new obligations are like insurmountable stumbling blocks. TheBear has a mature writing style that explores how romance must sometimes be forced to take a backseat to the bigger picture. But in the process, that relationship is enriched and made infinitely precious because of the compromises that must be constantly negotiated.
