Rex Duodecim Angelus is a Homestuck fan animation project contributed to by multiple people, it pays a lot of attention to the style of the original comic, and tries (quite successfully) to use the piece of music - Rex Duodecim Angelus (who's title is a reference to the trolls' Black King) to tell the, canonically off screen, story of the troll team's battle with The Black King.

Andrew Hussie and Malcolm Brown did take notice at some point and Andrew Hussie commented along the lines that it was very good and that he considered it mostly compliant with canon. This is passed around with some warm pride.

A quote from the video description:

Years in the making, we bring you [S] Rex Duodecim Angelus, the epic tribute to Malcolm Brown's musical masterpiece. Thanks to the efforts of dozens of artists we can finally show you what really went down when the trolls of Alternia clashed with the monstrous Black King of Derse on the crumbling Battlefield at the center of Skaia.

And even if that stuff was completely incomprehensible to you, this animation is sure to pique your interest if you have even a cursory interest in spectacular cartoon battles. If that's the case, be sure to head on to www.mspaintadventures.com and start reading Homestuck TODAY, which at the time of writing is in fact the FOUR EARTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the start of the Alternian saga!

I think the best part of this animation is how each character got equal chance to be a badass, and all of them pulled through on it. Most animations would just focus on one or two characters. - Arkan

I absolutely love how we don't even see Gamzee's attack. He just does it in a flash and destroys a massive chunk of the King. It really layers on to the mystery of his character. I could ramble about all the details in this animation. You can tell how much care and thought and effort was put in. - Devzy

I love that Nepeta fights exactly like a cat batting at a piece of string. - Bluejay

Rewatching this every little while is a wonderful experience. Also the problem sleuth reference when Vriska summons a WEASEL OF UNUSUAL SIZE was wonderful - Hanson Kerman

I cannot fathom a world where I didnt hang out with over 100 kids who blocked up city streets and freaked out over each update! Being a Homestuck during the haydays of the fandom was something to be seen - Vesstig
