Star Wars Rebels is an 3D CGI animated television series produced by Lucasfilm Animation. It is canonically set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope

Fandom

When Rebels was announced, many fans were cautious. Following the retconning of the Star Wars Expanded Universe (EU), and the cancellation of Star Wars:The Clone Wars, fans had limited expectations for the new series.

The inclusion of several characters originally introduced in the Clone Wars, including Ahsoka Tano, was greeted positively by fans. The reintroduction of fan favorite character Grand Admiral Thrawn, in season 3, was another boost to the fandom. Fans began to discuss which characters and elements of Star Wars Legends canon could be reintegrated into the new canon of the series.

Star Wars Rebels was canceled following its fourth season. A year after the finale episode aired, fans celebrated the series using #RebelsRemembered.[1]

During and following the series, much fan activity involved theorizing, and some theories about the where the Rebels were during the Sequel Trilogy gained popularity and media attention.[2] The most well known theory, that has also been debunked, is the theory that Ezra Bridger would become Snoke.

Common Tropes & Storylines

  • Future fics set post canon are often crossovers with the Star Wars Original Trilogy or Sequel Trilogy films. Some works also feature the character of Jacen Syndulla, the son of Hera and Kanan, who was introduced in the series finale.
  • Works set post-Malachor often focus on Kanan's blindness, as he and other characters come to terms with his disability. In AU fics, Kanan is often blinded, either from birth or injury. Works where he recovers his sight are not common.

Shipping

Many fanworks in this fandom are gen. Many gen works focus on the family dynamic of the Ghost crew, with Kanan and Hera portrayed as the sometimes exasperated parents of Sabine, Ezra and Zeb.
