Reactions and Reviews

In only two pages, we are treated to some fine revelations. ENTERPRISE has picked up earthquake survivors, among them T’Pring. In waste-no-time Vulcan fashion, she declares she no longer has objections to serving as Spock’s wife. Whereupon Spock calmly states “I have no need for a wife.”

If there were any doubt as to why that particular fact is true, it is quickly dispelled as a wet and quite naked Kirk steps into the room. Icy response: “He serves you instead?” With a very economic use of words, we learn a great deal about the effects of the Kalifee on Spock...and on Kirk. We also learn that neither man bears ill-will, that neither has forgotten compassion as they learned to love each other. Perhaps that love has made them even more willing to forget the past and to forgive transgressions. There was even some fun included when Spock made a veiled suggestion (tongue in cheek, I’m sure) that he and Kirk might share T’Pring. It seems the thought of a human male who is always fertile is unsettling to her. And there’s the final defining moment when T’Pring exits and Kirk begins to peel off the robe Spock had earlier suggested he acquire: “Speaking of arranging a union...”

A lot said in a little space [1]
