Is it really necessary to link to all the "We Invented the Remix" pages by year? The current page has links to all the former challenges and it wouldn't look so cluttered with just one link.--Doro 16:52, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

If you wanted to create a We Invented Remix page and a We Invented the Remix Redux page (sub-pages of remix, maybe?) and link them on those, that would make sense to me. But, the challenges themselves are on two different servers in three different people's webspaces. If bossymarmalade takes hers down, for whatever reason, while the other two sets stay up, I don't see any particular reason people shouldn't be able to get to previous versions.--zvi 21:30, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

definition too narrow?

While we do want to focus on fannish definitions, it looks strange that there is no acknowledgment of other definitions of the word "remix", which is sometimes used to describe a lot of transformative youtube videos and even fanfiction generally. Remix culture, etc. Remix also has a specific meaning in the context of audio recordings [1].--æþel 00:43, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

As mentioned over here, fannish remixes can include art as well as fic.--æþel 23:56, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
As another example, the 2011 summer round of the Kakairu Fest included mixed fanart/fanfic remixes, as well as fanfic/fanfic remixes. --Anenko 01:30, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

I wanted to add a quote about remixing stories (not as part of a challenge), but it doesn't fit here on this page. It also doesn't fit on the Unauthorized Sequel page as the quote is about "re-writing" the whole story. Is there a way to make this page more inclusive of the entire remix practice? Or can someone direct me to another page that I may be missing? I'm not knowledgeable enough about the subject of "remix" to simply barge in on this page as it is. (The quote I want to use: "Like, if I give someone a pair of hand-knitted socks for Christmas, and they decide to unweave them and make a scarf, or something. I mean, yeah, technically, I gave them the socks, but I also did it as a heartfelt gesture and didn't get anything back for it--whereas if someone purchased the socks from me, I'd probably never think about what they did with them beyond our transaction. But seeing my gift turned into something else without my friend asking me would sting. I know this analogy falls apart (like the badly knitted socks) if you look at it too closely. *g* I guess, the way I see it is that, as fans, there's a certain kinship that links us all together--we may not all be friends, but with the six-or-less degrees of separation it's not that hard to feel like we're all interlinked, sometimes. And we're not all going to be so close that we'll knit each other socks, but in a way, when we share our fanfiction online, we are sharing a gift to the fandom: our contribution." from transcendeza's comment, 2007.) --MPH (talk) 21:27, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

I've tweaked the page a bit. I think we still need input from people who know more about or developed the first remix challenges--because I'm not sure if "remix" was used in fandom before the challenges. This page was created in 2008 when I think both LJ and remix challenges were still big, so the focus of the page was just on the challenges. But you can probably add the quote to the existing Controversy section.--æþel (talk) 21:25, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, æþel, for working on it. I agree, the page needs more by those-in-the-know. Hopefully, others will add to it. --MPH (talk) 21:30, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

remix vs responsefic?

The intro says not to mix up remixes with response fic, but now we have Take Clothes Off As Directed in the examples section, when "Take Clothes Off As Directed" is also definitely a responsefic as it's listed on that page Responsefic#Stargate_Atlantis. IMO, "Take Clothes Off As Directed" doesn't count because it definitely seems like it wasn't intended as a remix at all? - Hoopla (talk) 05:32, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank for pointing that out; I've removed it. – caes (talk) 06:47, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
