Tempest in a Teacup is a Zutara fanfic by AkaVertigo. It is an AU in which Katara is captured and taken from south pole in a Fire Nation raid and is raised by Iroh, becoming childhood friends with Zuko. Summary: Fate puts Katara in the Fire Nation to grow up in the company of a Dragon, a prince, and a lot of good tea. AU Zutara...of a sort.

Arguably one of the best written Zuko/Katara fanfiction with a heavy dose of Iroh. Events take place between the raids of the Southern Water Tribes until 1x01 "The Boy in the Iceberg". This piece can double has a great character study fic for both Zuko and Katara. Could be considered AU. And to be quite frank, the writing itself is immensely beautiful and incredibly poetic. It's not hard to be get drawn into this story.[1]

‘Tempest in a Teacup’ by AkaVertigo is a fic that gets mentioned a lot in the Zutara fandom, but I really and truly cannot emphasise how much I adore it. It is not only one of my favourite (if not the favourite) Z/K fic, but one of my favourite fics of all time. Every sentence is poetry. Every paragraph is art. And every chapter is a masterpiece. If I ever wrote anything a fraction as good, I would die happy. It’s a multi-chapter, completed AU of what would’ve happened if Zuko and Katara had been childhood friends, but the story follows canon pretty closely, and just. It is the whole of my heart.[5]

For the first half, Zuko isn’t even introduced, but we just have Katara and Iroh. It’s pretty fantastic [: Don’t try to read the sequel, as it’s long dead. But this one ends with enough closure, and it is COMPLETE[7]
A fucking Zutara classic. This was written and completed back in 2006, 2 years before ATLA even ended. If you regularly read Z/K fics, I’m almost sure you’ve read this one. It’s a good amount of everything: feels, squeals, and just. Everything. I can’t even begin to describe how much this fic has stuck with me. There’s also an unfinished sequel to this, but the fic overall has enough closure. Just. Just read this ok just read it.[8]
