The First Order of the Jedi Knights (Intergalactic) is one of the first known (first?) Star Wars fan club.

flyer in Eagle: 1 #3

It published a monthly newsletter, The Force, and members received a membership card.

From an ad in Eagle: 1: "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, the Jedi Knights lived and fought. They are long dead (or are they?), but their memory lives on. The First Order of the Jedi Knights (Intergalactic) is dedicated to investigating the Force and rediscovering the mythos of the original Jedi Knights. Founded 25 May, 1977, it is also the oldest known STAR WARS fan club. You can become a member -- and have The Force with you -- 12 times a year!"

From the editorial of The Force #1:

Now what's all this about the Jedi Knights?

Shortly before the film came out—at about the time I was walking around unable to do anything but elicit little bleeps and exploding noises—Sam Konkin and I sat around tense with anticipation. Will the film live up to the book, to the pre-production illos, to the build-up in the fan press? If it does, we'll have to do something to honor it. A fan club would probably be the best way. If so, mused Sam, it would have to be the Jedi Knights. Well, I thought, we wouldn't be the Jedi Knights —- they lived and fought a longtime ago in a galaxy far, far away. But we'd be first Jedi Knights in this galaxy. Quick — what's the name of this galaxy? Yeah—sounds dumb, doesn't it. We used the name First Order of the Jedi Knights of Terra for a while, but that seemed too earthbound, so the "official" name is now The First Order of the Jedi Knights (Intergalactic). So what, you ask? So this: The Jedi Knights will serve two functions—first, it will be a fan club, and a way for STAR WARS fans to be put in touch with other fans in their vicinities. It will publish THE FORCE, dealing with all aspects of the film. Second.it will attempt to create an actual mythos of Jedi Knighthood, extrapolating from what is contained m the book and film, and whatever information we can gather concerning them.

Maybe we'll even find out what The Force is. and how it works...
