The second WOAD collection was released in 2004 on 3 DVDs packaged together with booklets, covers, and custom labels. The disks were not themed this time, but rather vids were grouped for variety and presentation pacing. Destina, sisabet, and dr. dawn joined the original WOADies, along with several other partners in crime. Killa designed the intros and menus, as well as an easter egg. The third disk contained:

I Love L.A. Angel Luminosity One of my favorite things about the show Angel is its ability to draw me into its fantastical scenes without hesitation. It’s dark and funny and noirish, and one of the most beautifully-filmed shows on television. I hoped to get that across in the vid.
So It Goes Stargate Carol S and Destina Destina suggested this song, even though she thought it was too slow and sappy, because it seemed to fit Jack so well. A few days later, Carol sent her the start of the vid, with clips laid in, and it started to seem as though it might actually work in that angsty, painful kind of way. Over the next several months, the two of them batted ideas for context back and forth like a ping pong ball, and had a few exciting discussions about how to properly end the thing. (It’s always dangerous when a rookie vidder starts to have definite ideas and wants to follow her intuition on certain things.) Eventually, with Carol doing the much of the work on clip choice and all the work on the technical side, it came together. The finished product is a character study of Jack, set loosely around the sixth season episode Abyss, as he reflects on life, loss, and loving Daniel.
Peacekeeper Buffy sisabet Buffy battles the dark origins of her power. Literally.
Hothead Godzilla Orbis
Concrete Smallville Destina I wanted to make a vid about the core conflict Lex feels with regard to Clark: Lex’s need to trust and believe Clark wars with his growing suspicion that Clark is keeping huge secrets from him, and finally, the secrets drive them apart. I was lucky enough to find the perfect song and was able to illustrate some of the more explicitly religious lyrics with the Christ-on-the-cross imagery that has permeated Smallville since the first episode. I was also able to imply multiple metaphors with the clips I chose, and thinking through the best way to visually illustrate these layers was incredibly fun. This was my second vid, so I was still struggling with the technical bits, but overall I was pleased with the outcome.
Yes I Am Highlander Melina A strange thing about vidding Duncan/Methos is that there seems to be many more songs that work from Methos’ point of view than from Duncan’s. This was an attempt to flip that around. I found the song tempo a real challenge to work with, and sadly, the show doesn’t have the emotionally powerful clips I’d have liked to really support the lyrics. I’m glad I finished it, though, and I’m especially happy that Suze liked it despite its flaws.
Passionate Kisses Stargate Carol S Sam is always reaching for that balance between career and personal life.
One of Us The Matrix Jackie K An exploration of religious themes in The Matrix.
Nightmares by the Sea Angel Luminosity I loved Season 4 of Angel. It was truly dark, overwrought soap opera. At the time I made this vid, Cordy hadn’t been discovered to be Evil!Cordy yet, but I felt that she came back wrong (a sort of theme in the Jossverse). If I were wrong, at least the vid would tell an interesting story.
Something to Talk About Stargate Carol S Thank you to Elynross and K’kai for the inspiration. There is nothing like strong feelings on a subject to get one motivated. Well, that and a preemptive strike in song choice in a fandom.
Echo Beach 13th Floor Jackie K. A non-literal take on an old 80’s song. The world does not blow up, but we prove it doesn’t exist, and that’s something, anyway.
Without Me Angel sisabet It was the case of watching the episode “Home,” rejoicing over Lilah’s triumphant reappearance, seeing a livejournal icon with the caption “Guess Who’s Back?” and somewhere along the way realizing that Lilah won. Also, that she is Slim Shady. Actually, that part was kinda obvious.
We’ll Meet Again Stargate Carol S This song woke me up on the radio one morning over two years ago. As soon as I heard it just knew who it had to be about. However, I’m very glad that I waited until "Changeling" aired to do; it just wouldn’t have had the same oomph without it.
Inside Jeremiah Killa I’ve made no secret of my Jeremiah obsession. This song was one of those that went from idea to vid in record time, because there was just no choice in the matter—I had to make it, even though it had been months since I’d felt like vidding. I did edit the song down quite a bit. Oddly, it was the image of Meaghan falling on “love is a shameless banner unfurled” that really seized me and wouldn’t let me go.
Fool For Love Buffy Luminosity My daughter found this remix. I wanted to do something techno, and this mix offered me the challenge of retelling the episode of Fool for Love the way I saw Spike. He knew that Buffy flirted with death all the time, and he wanted to personify it to her. Lust and love and obsession and anger.
Whiskey for My Men, Beer for My Horses Queer As Folk (US) sisabet and dr. dawn sisabet: Dawn is insane. This vid—every bit of it—entirely her idea. Brian and Justin are Batman and Robin (or Toby and Willie) and will save the city! I actually hated this song for its underhandedly racist tone until she convinced me that it is actually about fighting for truth, justice and the right to have sex in public.
Let It Be Me Stargate Carol S The Daniel I love best is the one out fighting for the good and the right and inspiring others to do the same.
Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? Highlander Killa and Melina Killa: Melina sprang this on me one night on instant message. I was already busy capturing Amanda clips for “I’m the Girl,” and that was all she wrote. We had a lot of fun brainstorming the countries, with surprisingly limited choices for locales in the series. Botswana may be my favorite.
Mean Mr. Mustard Farscape Jackie K. My first ever completed vid. It took three hours to find the clips, capture them, edit and render.
Crazy Baby Stargate Carol S I had never really meant to do this as a vid; if anything it was going to be the inspiration for a short bit of prose musing on Jack just prior to the movie. Then my friend Pam came over one evening and wanted to know how to edit music and I figured that I could show her with this. For once everything went very rapidly, so I ended up showing her how to capture clips. Then how to lay them down on a timeline. By the end of the evening the vid was nearly done.
Rebel Yell Buffy Luminosity This was my first BTVS vid. This is a character study, my “Here’s Spike” vid. I wanted to show his unhealthy obsession with Buffy, and how it actually started when they first met. And? He’s so cool and evil. Really Evil. (Streamin version available at the critical Commons)
All Souls Night Gladiator Destina I decided to vid Gladiator simply to experiment with the gorgeous images and to play with the color palette. I started searching for an instrumental piece, but it turned out that All Souls Night—a song I was already very familiar with—was the perfect match. The vid is a structured commentary on how life, death, war and peace are intertwined, a visual representation of the terrible beauty of their unending dance. But mostly, it’s just pretty.
All along the Watchtower Wild Palms Killa I’d had this in my “to do” list forever, but as VividCon was sneaking up fast, and I couldn’t think of anything else to do for the “Dreams” challenge, I decided, what the hell. This was thrown together very quickly right before the con, so it’s a pretty straightforward vid, but the amazing part of it is how elegantly the meaning of Dylan’s lyrics is reflected in the Wild Palms miniseries. I’m a passionate fan of this series, which was beautifully directed and incredibly well-written, in my opinion, and it was so exciting to peel back the layers of the story and realize that it is the fall of Babylon, that Tommy is the Christ figure, and is martyred, that the Fathers are the Princes, complete with attendant women and barefoot servants, that David Warner’s character is like the deus ex machina of the tale. The metaphors were all right there for the taking.
Old Man Stargate Carol S Sanna suggested this vid one evening in chat and after listening to the song again (I’d always liked it but never paid it much attention) I agreed it would make a wonderful vid for Daniel and Nick.
I Saw Her Standing There Buffy Jackie K. She was just 17. You know what I mean.
Learning to Fly Smallville Luminosity I love the way Smallville looks. All of those primary colors. I also like Clark. I had seen several Lex vids, but hadn’t seen anything that had shown Clark the way I saw him—an isolated child, coming of age.
Because I Told You So Jeremiah Killa Due to the kindness of a fellow fan on Livejournal, I was able to download the “missing 8 eps” of Jeremiah that have aired only in Canada. The unfolding of the relationship between Jeremiah and Kurdy made me so happy in this sequence of episodes that I must have been desperate for a need to express it. The day after I finished watching the last episode, I was at the gym and this song came up on my iPod. I mentioned to Ellen that I thought it might work for Jeremiah and Kurdy, she made encouraging noises as she almost always does, and I just happened to have a lot of clips that I’d captured for “Inside” still lying around on my drive. Once I started pairing the music with the clips, I couldn’t let it rest until it was finished. I was curiously embarrassed about making this vid because it’s such a straightforward relationship vid, nothing particularly artistic or groundbreaking about it. Then I remembered that it was vids about relationships that made me a Highlander fan (and before that a Starsky & Hutch fan and a Sentinel fan) and that made me want to vid in the first place.
Interjections! Stargate Carol S Everyone, myself included, had had so much fun with my first two School House Rock vids that I decided to see if I could find more to do.
