Reactions and Reviews

This is competently written, but not very original. My only problem is that my view of Amanda clashed with Charlotte's. I think that Amanda's loyalty to her son is such that she would never have calmly accepted Sarek disowning him. She'll compromise and go along with the Vulcan way on most things, but when it comes to the really important issues, like whether or not she got to see Spock again, I don't believe Amanda would have backed down an inch. Remember how angry she was about Spock refusing to save Sarek's life in "Journey to Babel". Sarek's life was too important to her to let Vulcan concepts of duty and responsibility stand in the way. Amanda has no higher value than her family. She would have had hysterical fits about Sarek disowning Spock until he gave in. This is a minor problem since it deals with events that took place before the narrative beings. Nevertheless, it's another case of details getting in the way of my enjoyment of a story. I was glad to see this sequel (to THE FACES OF LOVE in KSX 2) because I liked the original story so much and because I like sequels in general. It was very interesting to see the "other side" - not at all what I would have expected! I think Spock's basic misunderstanding of his parents and their actions was very true-to-life. And the story had a warm "feeling" of love in it. [1]

THINGS WORTH CELEBRATING is a story that, when I started reading it, I thought: 'Not another anniversary story. I was hoping that my feelings on that would change, but they never really did. This is a story concentrating on Kirk and Spock telling Sarek and Amanda about their relationship after it's been established for a year. As usual with Ms. Frost's work, it was very well written, but this particular story didn't do anyhing for me. Sweet and sexy despite my negative comments, it did work, and would be an excellent story for someone who's never read a similar plot-line. [2]
