About

"A place for writers to express themselves in any way; vent, ramble, snarl, whatever because posting is still writing and as long as our fingers are on the keyboard, our minds are focussed in a creative effort."

From a June 1998 plug:

Hi All!

I host a very intimate list for the discussion of fanfic writing. If you're looking for a small list on which to toss some creative ideas around, XFCTalk is for you.

The list includes writers of every X File genre; all topics are very welcome.

We're also not averse to talking about the eps, the movie, etc.

If you're interested, either email me, or follow the instructions below, to sub.

Hope to see you there!

Opening Announcement

- Announcing XFCTalk -

XFCTalk is going online today! XFCTalk is a new automated mailing list to facilitate the discussion of X-Files Fanfic and related topics.

Why have I started this list? Because as much as I love reading fanfic, I also love talking about it. The sheer volume of posted stories makes it impossible to read everything and to respond to all the writers whose works have moved me. Yet I know they are all deserving of comment. I would like to see each author find his or her audience.

I hope that, with your participation, this list will be a centre for honest, free critique and the discussion of fanfic. [3]

Site Move

In October 1998, the mailing list moved to egroups. [4]

Some 1998 Fan Comments

The new babe in the woods, with posts a bit slow to middling. Methinks some advertising is in order to get it hopping. But then again... [5]

Things are looking up the past couple of weeks here. After the first, typo-ridden edition of THE ACID DESK hit, there was a small flurry of debate on "Noir MSR" and "sap" versus "angst", with bets being taken on a Serious Summer Sap Influx, pre & post-movie. Oh. Gee. I can't wait.[6]

Whoaha, SlowCity! Come guys, it can't be just the summer heat that's slowing down this list. Chop! Chop! Let's make some noise in here! [7]

Great Caesar's Ghost! IT LIVES! And it's snarky too. Fascinating hullabaloo this week regarding a famous author and their middling latest piece (which is still, IMHO, better than the best work of most), with all the huffing and puffing that's usually found on the big lists. -Is- reputation enough? Are we being honest or jealous? Does *every* fic have to star M&S to be worthy of attention? Stay tuned, kids. (HEY YOU! Want to join XFCTalk? Subscribe here (XFCTalk - "subscribe XFCTALK 'your name') and come join the fun. [8]

Topics this week include ruminations about The Ring (you know which one I mean!) and the where's, what's, who's and why's as to the possible "legally-wed" Mrs. Spooky. Kudos to Jessie who boldly suggested that Mulder's "wife" might have been a guy. Like the saying goes, "Hey, You Never Know." Not much fiction talk, but, on this list, sometimes any talk is welcome. Why not join and liven it up? [9]

Some recs, still old as the hills, with The Book Club disappointingly quiet. I'm going to delurk methinks with some recs, hopefully encouraging others to follow suit. If you have recs, or want to talk the talk, why not join? [12]

Quiet as always, but I still think it's a good place for newbies and the curious, and I'll bet if you have a question on canon or Skinner's age or middle name, this is a good place to start your information hunt. Kick 'em up into some recommendations, Sci... I think they is just shy. [13]
